Morning Board

Gold is holding virtually flat this morning at $4,032.10 per troy ounce (+0.02%), demonstrating resilience while the rest of the sector takes a breath. Silver moved lower, shedding -2.18% to stand at $53.01 per troy ounce. That underperformance in silver pushed the gold/silver ratio up to 76.1 ounces of silver per ounce of gold.

The platinum group metals are also adjusting downward today. Platinum dropped -2.19% to trade at $1,503.00 per troy ounce, while palladium took the sharpest turn on the board, sliding -4.33% to $1,028.00 per troy ounce.

Macro Drivers

Precious metals are currently balancing firm nominal yields against massive long-term fiscal expansion. The US Dollar Index remains stable at 102.17 [4], while the US 10-year Treasury yield stands at 5.04% [3]. Measured against the latest US CPI inflation rate of 3.7% year-over-year [2], positive real yields continue to generate short-term headwinds for non-yielding assets, particularly weighting on industrial-leaning metals like silver and palladium.

At the same time, the macroeconomic baseline offers deep structural support for sovereign tier-one assets. Total US public debt outstanding now stands at $40.58 trillion [1]. As fiscal deficits expand, bullion continues to fulfill its traditional role as a key hedge against currency debasement and sovereign balance-sheet strain, keeping gold firmly anchored near record territory even in a high-yield environment.

Field Note

Silver possesses the highest electrical conductivity, thermal conductivity, and optical reflectivity of any element on the periodic table. Long before modern photo-voltaics or electronics, ancient craftspeople exploited this unmatched brilliance to fashion the world's finest mirrors by backing polished glass with ultra-thin layers of liquid silver—a fundamental chemical process that still underpins advanced solar reflectors and deep-space optics today.
